Y&S Academy (Yagna and Smita)
Y&S Dance Academy is
founded by Yagna & Smita who strongly believe that
Belly Dance is primitive source of self-healing and has the ability to increase
your self-esteem.
Both Yagna & Smita have been practicing and
performing the Art of Belly Dance since the past 8 years. They have done
workshops in India and abroad with Belly dance Superstars Sonia, Moria Chapell,
Amar Gamal, Jillina and other well known Masters. They have attended the
Theatrical Belly Dance workshop in New York in July 2010, Egyptian Choreography
Workshops at the Nile Group Festival 2011 & 2012 at Cairo, Egypt, Belly
Dance Conference 2013, China, The Tarazade Festival 2013, Istanbul and
Parthenon , Singapore
They have conducted many workshops for belly dance
in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. They have performed for different shows
(eg. Kala Ghoda Festival in Feb’2011) and at belly dance festivals like Jashn e
Banjara, Delhi and Hipnosis festival,Bangalore. Currently there are regular
classes conducted at Marine Lines, Matunga, Chembur and Kandivili.
About
Yagna…
Yagna has been practicing and performing the Art of
Belly Dancing since the past 8 years. Currently based in Mumbai, her ethnic
roots are based in Middle Eastern country Oman (Muscat).
Graduate in Management Studies and specialized in
Interior and Graphic Designing. She is a dancer, choreographer and teaches
various forms of belly dancing - Egyptian, Lebanese, Turkish and American
Tribal. She has extensive training in Indian Classical and western dance forms,
which includes Odissi, Chao, Rajasthani folk dance, Jazz, Jive, Hip Hop,
Flamenco, Salsa.
Yagna’s performances
invoke the exemplary Feminine as a force of nature. Her performance comprises
of transformations and fluid experimental moves which keeps audiences
enthralled.
About
Smita …
Smita has been practicing and performing Belly
Dance since the past 8 years.
A Chartered Accountant by qualification, dance has
been her passion since childhood. She has trained in diverse dance styles like
Jazz with Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts, different forms of
ballroom dance like Rumba, Samba, Jive, Cha Cha, Waltz with Sandip Soparrkar.
She has been a practitioner of Iyengar Yoga since 7 years. She is a performer
for a very popular Maharashtrian folk dance which is called Lavani. She is currently
getting trained in the Indian classical dance Kathak under Sunayana Hazarilalji
of the Benaras Gharana. But it is in belly dance that she discovered her true
calling.
Belly dancing for Smita
is all about self-expression. She is a perfect blend of emotions in her dance
and loves the freedom that belly dance gives her to explore and express
different emotions allowing her to interpret the music and create her own style
in each performance.
Workshop Details
a. Belly Lavani
Lavani is one of the most popular form of folk dance in Maharashtra. In
this workshop the students will be taught
a Lavani Toda (Entrance piece ) choreography wherein Middle eastern and
Marathi folk moves will be fused to the enchanting beats of Ghungroo, Dholaki,
Dhol, Daf and Lezim.
B. Belly Kathak Workshop:
In this workshop the students will taught how to use belly dance
isolation techniques to the basic footwork pattern in the Teen Taal (16 beat)
rhythm and also learn Oriental
combinations to rhythmic compositions called Toda and Chakradhar
The workshops by Y&S are open to all, trained & fresh dancers
are all welcome.
